It's difficult to articulate just how honored I feel to photograph such important occasions like weddings. I know how important my own wedding photos are to us and how historically important an heirloom, like my grandparents wedding album, becomes for future generations.
As I get older, I think that celebrating is so deeply important, it is not often that we get to show up for our nearest and dearest. Meeting Stacy & Kaara in person the day before their wedding -- I felt like we had all been friends for years -- to say they are welcoming, warm and open would be an understatement.
These two decided let me in on their surprise, they were going to have pop-up nuptials in their backyard. Until that moment, their friends and family showed up thinking this was to be a post-wedding party (as they had been married in Thailand earlier this year). I feel like that Kristen Wiig character with surprises.. so you can imagine how jittery I was leading up to that moment. Fortunately I kept it together and captured that moment and many others throughout the beautiful (and quite warm!) day.
After delivering a sneak peek selection of the photos, Stacy wrote the following in an email to me:
"A quick note to say thank you so much for sending the extended sneak peak of photos! We are in love with your art and the photos you’ve put so much love and work into. We cannot wait to see the rest but please do not rush - take your time. We are so very honoured to have had you capture these memories and make them last for us 💕"
As I said at the start of this post, words are hard to find when it comes to sharing how invaluable it is to not only get an email like this but that I got to be present for their celebration.
Thank you Stacy & Kaara for being beautiful brides inside and out.
